Yes, you can still accept health insurance, and in fact we recommend that you continue to do so. Insurance is part of the SignatureMD concierge business model.
Will I Lose My Ability To Bill Medicare?
As a SignatureMD concierge physician you will neither lose your right to bill Medicare nor will you be in violation of Medicare regulations, so long as you structure your practice correctly. SignatureMD has defined and organized its business practices to comply with Medicare regulations and prevailing legal interpretations. So long as you comply with SignatureMD’s policies, you should not be in violation of Medicare regulations and will be able to continue to treat Medicare patients.
Legal interpretation indicates that Medicare accepts concierge medicine “Insofar as the retainer fee under such agreement is truly for non-covered services, such fees would not appear to be in violation of Medicare law…” [HHS] SignatureMD is in full compliance with the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (January 1, 2011).
Will I Lose My Ability To Bill Private Payor Insurance?
SignatureMD does not bill patients for any covered medical services, and its program is therefore in compliance with vast majority of private insurers’ policies. Should an insurance company question your Signature program, SignatureMD’s physician management team will intervene on your behalf.
